Anyone who doesn’t know Peter Broderick raise his hand. I can’t see you, but I imagine there are quite a lot of hands up, even I did not know much about him before our meeting, so, now I present him to you.

First of all I tell you that this young man has published 14 records and took  part in numerous collaborations. His most ground-breaking album? We’re not talking about cds or mp3s ‘cause Peter goes beyond that with an http album, that you can only listen on line, itstartshear.com, which I recommend everyone to listen to. When I met Peter was to talk about These Walls Of Mine, his latest project, an intimate, essential (existential, I’d say) album where it was the voice the main protagonist. Peter is as you expect him, tall lean and charming, much more than a boy of his age should be. He came towards me humming his song "I’ve tried" a rap electronic piece halfway between the spoken word and the a cappella style.

That’s because the words are the true stars of this album. Every single word is placed exactly where it should be, no other word could ever replace it. From a semantic analysis thorough the harmony of the sounds of words, began a beneficial exchange with fans, friends, strangers on the web, started on flickr and continued on different social networks. Peter began publishing some photos, sketches, texts and music of his work, asking for opinions, critics and suggestions. The interaction with different people and cultures brought good results, God Save Social!

Peter bared himself and translated in verse and music his experiences (such as the disappearance of his cat in Freyer!), a real experiment made of puns and brief questions that made way to a real creative jam session, like When I Blank I Blank, an evocative ambient music, born from the exchange of views and ideas on Flickr; or These Walls of Mine I and II, the title track split into two parts, where Peter tells the creative process that led to the creation of the disc.

Peter describes this album as ” a collection of text and voice experiments. Of course the instruments and the music are important, but this album is held together by a dialogue of voices. Conversations with myself and with others. Many tracks contain text contributions by friends and strangers, made ​​possible with the help of internet . And then I sang and sang and sang. I love to sing. And I love cats.” I’ve nothing left to say, listen to him.

Chi non conosce Peter Broderick alzi la mano. Non vi vedo ma immagino che ci siano un bel po’ di mani alzate, persino io non sapevo molto di lui prima del nostro incontro, ora lo presento anche a voi.

Innanzi tutto vi dico che il giovane ha al suo attivo 14 dischi e numerosissime collaborazioni. Il suo album più innovativo? Non si parla di cd o mp3, Peter va oltre con un http album, un disco ascoltabile solo dal concept-sito itstartshear.com, che consiglio a tutti di ascoltare. Ma quando ci incontriamo è per parlare di "These Walls Of Mine", il suo ultimo progetto, un album intimo, essenziale (esistenziale aggiungerei) dove era la voce a farla da padrona. Peter è come te lo immagini, alto allampanato e affascinante, molto di più di quanto dovrebbe essere un ragazzo della sua età. Mi viene incontro canticchiando "I’ve tried", un pezzo simil rap elettronico a metà tra lo spoken word e lo stile a cappella. Si, perché sono le parole le vere protagoniste di questo album. Ogni singolo vocabolo è messo esattamente dove deve stare, nessun altro potrebbe mai sostituirlo. Proprio partendo da un’analisi semantica e dall’armonia dei suoni delle parole ha preso vita  uno scambio virtuoso con fan, amici e sconosciuti sul web, iniziato via flickr e proseguito su diversi social.

Peter infatti ha iniziato pubblicando alcune foto, bozze, testi e musica del suo lavoro, chiedendo pareri, giudizi e suggerimenti. L’interazione con persone e culture diverse ha dato buoni frutti, God Save Social! Peter si è messo a nudo, ha riportato in versi e musica le sue esperienze (come la sparizione del suo gatto in Freyer!), un vero e proprio esperimento fatto di giochi di parole o brevi questionari che hanno dato vita a vere e proprie  jam session creative, come When I Blank I Blank, un brano ambient evocativo, nato proprio dallo scambio di opinioni e idee su Flickr o These Walls Of Mine I e II, la title track divisa in due brani dove Peter racconta il processo creativo che ha portato alla creazione del disco. Parlando del disco, Peter lo descrive come “una raccolta di esperimenti testuali e vocali. Naturalmente gli strumenti e la musica sono importanti, ma quest’album è tenuto insieme da un dialogo di voci. Conversazioni con me stesso e con altri. Molte tracce contengono contributi testuali di amici ed estranei, resi possibili con l’aiuto di internet. E poi ho cantato e cantato e cantato. Amo cantare. E amo i gatti.” Io non aggiungerei altro, ascoltatelo.
