Comics: Owl & Pussicat by Stuart Wood
The Owl & The Pussycat is a web comic created by Stuart Wood. It is inspired by characters from the classic Edward Lear poem.
Pussyowl began in 2005 when Stuart created a series of pixel animations based around the owl and the pussycat characters and their adventures in various scenarios from videogames, film and literature. Last year Stuart decided to return to the Owl & Pussycat in a new format.
“I’m still developing my style and with Pussyowl I think the use of colour and brushes is a little more accomplished than my previous work. It has a clean, almost vector look to it, and the use of positive, bright colours acts as a contrast (and contributes to) some of the dry, dark humour. There is a deliberate inconsistency to the background style to keep the comic looking fresh and psychedelic in line with the surrealism of Edward Lear’s work”
“The character design was influenced by the cartoons of my youth such as The Simpsons, Rocko’s Modern Life, Rude Dog and The Dweebs.”
“Although I have a rough end point for the comic, there’s huge scope for ideas from pop culture and videogame references, the surreal limericks of Edward Lear, Cat and Owl’s dysfunctional relationship, nautical themes, the ocean is the limit!”

…reality beyond imagination!
i love cartoons. it brings humor and laughter in my life, and who doesn’t need that each day?? thanks
I love Pussyowl, it’s always great to see a new strip up. A great palette that works through the panels (you don’t see that often enough) and terrific, clean artwork.
Reminds me a lot of Walt Kelly’s Pogo…
